Whether it's from a dispute with your mother, staying up too late scrolling on TikTok, or your hormones getting the better of you, there are days when you just can't seem to get out of a funk.
Here are seven tried-and-true methods for lifting your spirits.
1. Take a stroll
To be honest, there aren't many issues that a lengthy stroll can't resolve. I'm not sure if it's the sunshine on your face, the exercise, the fresh air, or a mix of these, but whatever it is, it works. Simply put on your sneakers, grab your headphones and stroll outside when you're feeling down.
2. Look Through Amusing Memes
Laughter is the best remedy to a negative attitude. I just skim through my favourite meme accounts on Instagram (@gemmareacts is always a winner) if I'm feeling down. I always feel better ten minutes later, after tagging my buddies in about 103,784 posts.
3. A journal
One of my favourite methods for self-improvement is journaling. It simply takes five minutes, and this is the journaling practice I suggest to clients whenever they need a boost:
Start by listing five qualities you adore about yourself, such as your kindness.
List five items in your life for which you are thankful (for example, "I am thankful for my friends").
List five positive experiences from the past day, no matter how minor (for example, "I am thankful for my morning coffee").
Lastly, list five things that you are excited about.
4. Give your best friend a call
Let it out, and let them remind you of your true badassness and provide you a fresh viewpoint.
5. Engage in meditation
It is very simple to let our minds go wild with pessimistic ideas and worst-case scenarios when we are feeling down. Give yourself the chance to just refresh by taking a moment to discover calm. You may be able to change your perspective just by practicing attentive breathing for a few minutes, feeling your stomach rise and fall as you breathe in and out.
6. Make a Reservation
Everybody needs something to look forward to, and that sense of eager anticipation is frequently sufficient to lift us out of a bad mood. Get tickets to a performance, a spa treatment, or dinner at your favourite restaurant online. You may even spend fifteen minutes creating a Pinterest board for your upcoming vacation.
7. Contemplate
Use your imagination to transport yourself to a different place when everything seems overwhelming. Simply close your eyes and visualise yourself having the day of your dreams. Enjoy every moment, every scent, every sensation. Enjoy the day from beginning to end. This is a fantastic way to improve your mood and the first step to creating the day of your dreams.
